Just started a few weeks ago:

Whenever I start the truck, put it in drive, and begin to roll with a little bit of turn in the wheel, there's a metal creaking noise (similar to a bad ball joint or

rubbing brake dust shield) coming from underneath, probably one of the wheel wells.

Noise doesn't happen again until the truck stops and sits and cools off for a few hours.

truck has 4k miles on it

only mods potentially related are Bilstein coilovers up front (shocks in rear as well)

I've double checked the work, all nuts are tight

Any ideas?

UPDATE: does not require any turn in the wheel to maybe the noise

Did it make this noise before the Bilsteins?

Did you install the Bilsteins yourself?

Did the strut assembly come preassembled?

Quite a few variables here.

My 23 is making a creaking noise up front but it did it before my Bilstein install which I did myself including the coil, top hat, height ring, etc.

It is still making the noise after.  I thought maybe control arm bushings settling or sway bar bushings but honestly it seems effected by steering wheel so maybe something with the rack.

My truck is trash though and this creak is minor compared to the other things.

Pre assembled, DIY, started a month or so after the alignment

Just updated the post,  turning does not affect the noise

It's also totally quiet when driving, turning,  bumps, etc

Guessing you removed sway bar link at bottom?

Did you reconnect and torque it with suspension fully weighted?

Links don't seat and torque properly without load.

Easiest for me to put wheel on and lower vehicle to ground.

I had no way to test torque properly because the link would turn without me holding the 9mm spindle via a pass through socket so I cranked them down enough that when I put torque wrench on it clicked before they spun.

If you are 100 pct sure everything else is torqued down and 100 pct sure that preassembled strut is good then it could be something unrelated to your work.

May have to give it time to settle in where it is more identifiable.

Let us know if you find out anything.

You know I suspected the sway link for the same reasons you stated.

I did tighten it again weighted, it needed it.

What is the torque spec?

I also had to hold the spindle still with a hex but I did not check with a torque wrench as it would always just spin the ball joint.
