Interior door handle replacement

[96 Vortec]

The interior door handle broke off at the hingepoint in my 96 K1500. I took the door panel off to try and figure out what was going on. I then realized the handle and lock assembly were riveted to the door. I can't find any info on how the system works or what part I need to replace. I'm hesitant to drill out the rivets until I know more about the system.

 

On the bright side, I now have a reason to get a rivet gun.

 

Anyone know anything about this.

just drill out the rivet

the handle should the slide out either forward or backward (can't remember)

pop off the lock rod and the latch rod

replace the handle

install a new rivit

rather simple except for the rivet if you don't have a rivit gun

Yup not to difficult take your time with the latch rods and it is just the one rivet that hold the handle to the door.

I 'm with these guys, the handle is easy to replace. I have put tons of these handles on these trucks and I put a set of Escalade handles in my Tahoe. Cakewalk.

I'm searching www.partszoneonline.com for the handle. I don't have a part number, but I did find this description:

 

"Handle inside Left 95-96 $25.32 $17.47

Front door - Lock and hardware - Handle inside"

 

Does this sound like the part I'm after? If not, can someone give me a part number?

 

Also, As far as rivets, I don't need anything more than a pop rivet gun and a handfull of rivets do I?

Not sure on the part # for you. That does sound about right on the price, make sure you get the right color to match your interior.

 

But all you need is the pop rivet gun and a 3/16" rivet.

What color is your interior? If neutral (light tan) or gray, I can hook you up with a handle.
