Door ding prevention?

Moving into an apartment, probably keeping the truck parked in a spot now instead of on the street (no dings). The truck only sees weekend duty for lugging around the motorcycle so I don't have to worry about dings ever usually.

Thinking of going the truck cover route, from California Car Cover...their Stormweave advertises ding prevention...

What have you done in the past? Side step bars, etc????

Side step bars help for front doors on cars, but rear doors that are cut out for rear wheel will miss the step bar

FOund this out when i had park our STS to close to my truckand openned the rear door to get something out

Flares over the wheels are also a help. A guy at work has nurf bars that go all the way to the back wheel which seems are also good, far better than mine.

But seriously, nerf bars will keep a lot of cars from hitting it but you still have to worry about truck doors and everything else.

They had some products advertised that would stick to the side of your vehicle to take the blow from car doors and if you are only driving your truck on the weekends I don't think it would be a bit PITA to put them on once a week. I think performanceproducts.com had them.

the molding on the doors of the truck actually do a really good job in preventing door dings. i am forced to park in a rather tight (ok, really tight) parking structure at work, and i really havent gotten any door dings in the truck in the 4+ years I have been parking there. i know a lot of people like to take those moldings off for a better look - but i cant imagine what my truck would look like without those on...

Karnia2k1, that is true. I had an old Blazer that I did an 8" lift on and it did work. On the downside you have to watch for low hanging items.

I always wondered about this. I have a Z71 Tahoe, and while it looks really clean without moldings, it seems like biting off your nose to spite your face...there's no molding on my truck, and luckily, after a year and half, still no dings, but I park in the middle of nowhere. Wife hates it.

Well, you could always take up 2 parking spaces so people can't park next to you, but that's not nice.

I've got dings in my extended cab doors - if I could I'd ding whoever did that to me. The nerf bars definitely help, but short of putting a steel fence around the truck, I haven't found a good way to stop the dings in parking lots yet.
