Tires?

Looking to buy new tires for the Silverado. I'm looking at either the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KOs or the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos... Probably will go with 265/75 R16 with a load range D. Both tires cost about the same. Which of these would you pick? Are there others that I should look at? I drive mostly on pavement with some trips out to the pastures on the in-laws ranch and to the deer lease etc. I tow a 4000lb BBQ smoker and the occasional car or horse trailer.

I have the 285 Revos and they are absolutely great....best money ever spent on the truck of course this is my opinion but the wet traction and snow is incredible. I would sping those crappy Wilderness, that came stock, around every corner. They also ride superb. you can see them in my picks below.

Thanks for the quick reply! Great looking truck! Any rubbing issues with the 285s? Have you cranked the T-bars? Also, with the 285s have you noticed any difference in power or fuel mileage? Did you have the 'puter flashed to reflect the tire size diff. from stock? How far off is your speedo?

Sorry for so many questions, I was looking at the 285s, but the above questions started me looking at the 265s.

I put Michelin LTX M/S 265's on my 03. I generally like Michelin as they ride forever with proper rotation. I had 245's and these gave the truck alot better look. They ride great on the road, especially in wet weather here in B.C. I do mainly highway driving and have no complaints.

I'm waiting on my Westers PCM to correct the mileage but it is off by some 3 to 6 mph. At high speeds, above 60, I notice a 3 mph difference. I have no rubbing whatsoever and have not cranked my t-bars at all. The power feels the same but some say they notice a difference in the low-end. I was planning on getting the Westers anyway to increase torque and horsepower so all of that stuff will be gone once I put it in my truck. One more week and it's here..........

forgot to say that I have seen no difference in fuel mileage and the size tire makes the truck look more brawny compared to my old 265's. ALthough the difference is little when measuring you can tell when you put them on the truck. I also plan on getting a 3 inch body lift, when the wife quits scabbling of course, to increase my articulation some more. It has been raining all day today and my tires haven't slipped yet and believe me I've tried to make it repeat like my old ones.

If you buy the tires go to Firestone and get the buy 4 get one free special with the road hazard, replacement and lifetime rotation. I paid $694 out the door installed with all the whistles, including an alignment. This is the best price I found when compared to Tirerack.com. The problem with ordering over the internet is that once you pay for balance and mounting you come to the same price...........just couldn't wait.

A good resource for getting ideas on tires is the survey at TIRERACK.COM . So far, the Dueler Revo ATs are rated at the top spot.

I have had these for 14,000 miles now and have been thrilled with them. Hardly any hydroplaning and they work perfectly in the pasture. They do great on the freeway and corner extremely well.

I can't comment on towing with them since I haven't really towed anything heavier than an 18' boat and it didn't even seem to be back there.

These do NOT have self-cleaning tread, meaning they would be struggling if you have to drive on intense sticky red construction clay. Other than that.... But for me, these are the "best" tires I have ever had.

As a side note, I think Bridgestone has been going through an intensive engineering effort in the past five years. I have used the Bridgestone Potenza tires on the Pontiac Grand Am and they turned that boring little car into a sports car, enabling it to corner as if it were on rails.

Man, both are great tires. You can't go wrong with either one. I've only driven the KO's and they balance and wear very well. I had them siped and they're like a different tire in the rain.

I have the Dueler Revos on my '00 Jimmy and love them. They are the best truck tires I've ever owned bar none. They provide xcellent traction in snow and rain, great handling, and a quiet ride. They are infinitely better than the Wranglers it used to have and I like them a lot better than the Firestone Wilderness ATs on my Silverado. I would highly recommend these tires - especially for your needs.

I have 285/75/16 BFG AT TA KO's on my 03 4x4 and I love them! I don't think you can go wrong with either tire. I got a better deal on the BFG's at the time and I've always been kinda partial to BFG tires anyway because I always had them on my f-bodies and loved them. I have no clearance problems or rubbing issues with the 285's and I haven't done a thing to the t-bars. I think the 285's should be an option on the trucks - they look awesome on the stock rims! Again, I don't think you can go wrong with either tire - the BFG's have been around for a while and have been at the top of the pack a lot for the AT tires, but now some other companies are coming along with great tires too - especially the Revo's - good luck and you'll be happy either way

I've got the Michelin MXT M/S 245s (OK road tire but not enough for Mud, Snow and Rain IMO) but want to upsize to 265 or 285 revos.

i've got the BFG AT KO 285's on my truck. they handle real well - i couldnt beleive the difference what i changed to these from the stock Wilderness AT's. no rubbing issues either. http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html will tell you the speedo difference to expect.

i have about 50k on the tires now and they still have pretty decent thread left. I plan on replacing before next winter, should get 65k+ out of them...

I called the Firestone dealer in my area and they said I needed a coupon.

I think I'm leaning towards the Revos. I stoped by the local Firestone store to check them out again and to get a quote. I asked about the buy 3, get 1 free deal.

The sales lady never even blinked. She pulled up a new quote with that deal .No coupons needed here.

Now to decide on the 265 or the 285...
