Hey, I tried looking up some info , my main concern is that in heavy stop and go traffic my trans gets up to about 210-215 max. I have the updated lower temp thermostat , Factory cooler . question is, i want to install mishimoto trans cooler. How much will that help with temps? 
 

if I did a thermostat bypass and the mishimoto trans cooler, from my understanding my trans temp will be very low in the winter ? here in PA we get very cold winters. What do you cold climate guys have done to your transmission to help temps?

 

also , fluid changed 30k ago. Will be doing Amsoil fluid and Ppe pan with drain shortly

Hmm.  Stop and go shouldn't really get it that hot unless we are talking like serious stop and go.  Like takes you 20-30 minutes to travel a couple blocks. 

 

Providing you don't have any blockages in your stock cooler, I suppose you could do the Mishimoto but if you do, keep the lower temp TBV in place and don't do a bypass/pill flip that way you still run good temps but gain a lot more cooling area and just over 1/2 a quart added fluid capacity. 

 

I can't speak on the PPE pan but all it seems you gain is the ability to drain and fill easier.  It won't really provide any added cooling other than its ability to hold more fluid that will take just a hair longer to fully heat.     

 

So IMO, your biggest chance of gains (lower temps in heavy traffic) is the Mishimoto.

With factory cooler and the bypass, driving through stop and go traffic in Pittsburgh in the summer my truck hit 175° in the winter time you might see 120°. I put the updated thermal bypass valve back in for the winter in my work truck. I do a lot of open road driving and it doesn't get over 100° in a 70 mile drive with the bypass. It's around 140° with thermostat in. These are pan fluid temps.

Yes I am talking serious stop and go Philadelphia Roosevelt boulevard driving all the way up the boulevard at rush hour. It’s about a solid 45 minute stop and go drive . Takes me about 45 mins to go 9-10 miles normally , really bad traffic could be 1-2 miles in 25-30 mins which does happen a handful of times a month 

 

thank you for your input! Yeah the Ppe pan I am not set on just yet. Does seem like a good idea but for the price of $300 I’m not sure

Those are good temps to be at .

I have the PPE pan on both my trucks. No regrets here.

Problem is a lack of airflow over the cooler. Fan kit?

North of Pittsburgh here and just had my  8L90 replaced back in January. I called the dealership to confirm it had the newer thermostat, which they said it did. Last week when ambient temps were in the 50’s-60’s I was seeing trans temps on highway between 150°-165°. Once off the highway and stop and go driving I got up to 185° max.

I remove thermostat in the spring and put it back in when winter hits,in my 2014 Sierra I use for work. I removed it from my 2018 Sierra because it only get driven in the summer months. And I have the PPE pans on both. So my temps are lower now.
