Power Door Locks

My driver's door lock stopped working. It clicks and the acuator moves, but the door does not lock. After taking apart the door, I found that the actuator is held to the door frame with two rivets that broke. I can't re-attach it, and the dealer is unsure he can.

Anyone have this happen?

Do you have enough room to drill out the rivets and use a screw, lock washer, and nut?

Only if I remove the entire inner metal door. Doing that may be beyound my skills, but that is probably the solution. Once the inner trim panel is off, there is a black metal inner door bolted to the outside door. But the black inner door has so much bolted and attached to it, it is daunting. That would be the only way to get at both sides of the actuator.

The dealer is going to dig into it tomorrow. It may be less painful to let him install a new actuator and attach it as originally designed, though. He is going to call me with his solution before he proceeds. I don't know if the new actuator would come with bolts or rivits. Some things attach differently on repair versus original manufacture.

You guys are really making too much out of a simple job. just take the 7mm head screw out of the top of the inner panel and the ones odown the sides, also take out the 10 mm head bolt through the panel. This will allow you to pull the panel out enough to reattach the actuator.

I like your optimism. I wished you lived a little closer to my garage. If I can find the plan on attaching it (or re-attaching it), I may dive in. I know exactly the bolts you are talking about.

Dealer fixed it for $70 and $2 in rivets. He was able to get in there without removing the inner door. I was impressed since I had seen what needed to be done. Also cured some rattles in the door from 100K miles and use.

Anyone in Colorado Springs area, Team Chevy does good work.
