Just traded in the 2001 HD for a fully loaded GMC HD Crew Cab. Instead of the 8.1 I went with the duramax diesel. This truck is a trip!! The XM radio and On Star systems are just awesome and the diesel engine is fantastic. In town i'm already getting over 17 mpg.........my 8.1 was just over 10 mpg. The add on's are too long to list, but I will give it a shot!

Nice purchase. Wait until the Dmax is broken in...it's gets better and better.

When you start to get bored with its current performance - put the Edge Juice on it and then hold on.

Sounds like a nice ride. You should get in touch with Sincity about a get together out there. It seems there's a few of you out that way.

The engine is quiet in the cab. I haven't towed anything yet so I can't compare to the 8.1. So far it has plenty of power, seems to have more pickup than the 8.1 I am getting a little over 17 mpg which is about 7 mpg better than the 8.1. Now don't get me wrong that 8.1 was a great engine a lot of power and very dependable, but this diesel seems to be just as good and better gas mileage. I am sure when I tow this weekend, it will be awesome. Will let you know on that..............!!

I hooked my 7,000 lbs. 20 ft. Haulmark enclosed car hauler to my '03 2500 HD 4x4, Ext. Cab w/Duramax & Allison and went through the part of town with the most hills. I almost had to go back home because I nearly thought I had left the house without the trailer. It literally towed that trailer like it wasn't there, was still managing 16.3 mpg for fuel mileage too.

EGT=Exhaust Gas Temperature. That's the top gauge in my picture. A pyrometer probe is installed into the exhaust manifold to read the temperatures.

Heavy loading/towing + steep grades can cause some high EGT's. Get too hot for too long and you can possibly cause damage to the turbo/engine. Spikes of high temps aren't necessarily a big deal, but long duration hot spells can be an issue if not careful.

Performance chips can, and usually do, increase EGT's without load/towing. I've hit 1100°+ on a hard 0-60mph run which really isn't that hot but my chip isn't as hot as some of them out there either.

I am looking for about the same thing you just got except Ext Cab version. I am guessing you are in Vegas, hence the name. What dealer did you get it from or did you have to special order it? I went to Courtesy today and they do not have a single Duramax on the lot. Thank you in advance for any info. Also Congrats
