truck cuts out

I was driving to lunch today and flashed my headlights to let a truck move infront of me. As soon as I flashed my highbeams, my truck died and all the dash lights came on (bat. airbag, seatbelt, abs) as soon as I let off the lights, it came back to normal. I tryed it again and same thing. After I shut the truck off and back on, I tried it and it worked like it should. After that I drove about 4 miles and tried it again, cut out again, but then after it came back on, the abs and airbag light would flash every 5 sec. I flashed the lights again and it went back to normal. Once I got back to work, I sat in the parking lot and flashed the lights for about a min and it never cut out once. I haven't tried it since, but was told it might be the gauge cluster.. I changed to a escalade cluster about 3-4 weeks ago. Any ideas as to what it could be, hopefully not my new cluster. Thanks

I am assuming b/c of your signauture the truck you are referring to is a 2000 model. My dad had a 2000 sierra that did the exact same thing and it ended up being the battery was bad. His truck totally freaked out...gaguge lights flashing, etc...I thought it was having an electrical meltdown. Ended up just being the battery - supposedly the batteries that came with those trucks that year had some problems with corossion, etc. but, if you are still on the factory battery it is probably time for a new one anyways.

I recently replaced the battery, one cold morning it wouldn't start, that was about a month and a half ago. It has been fine since, maybe it just got wet?, it was raining out? Thanks

Just to rule it out, I would have the battery checked. You can go to wal-mart and they will do it for free. Check to make sure you do have any loose cables and also make sure they aren't corroded.
