Need advice on lowering kit

First of all I'ld like to say hi to everyone, as this is my first post.

I am going to purchase a 99-00 Silverado or Sierra regular cab/short bed in the very near future, and as any vehicle enthusiast, I am already planning modifications. I am looking to do a 2/4" or 3/4" (that's front/rear) drop on the truck and I am looking for some advice on which brand to buy, and where I might get a good deal.

I'm expecting to get front lowering coil springs, a rear shackle and hanger kit, and front and rear dropped shocks - and I'm looking to do it for $400 or less. It would be great if some one could point me in the right direction.

Thanks everyone,

Derek

Most people I know go up...but I have seen a bunch of different lowering kits and methods check here to start...PARTS

The preferred venders list on this site also has a few.

Derek, Welcome aboard. I have a 2000 Silverado ex cab, short bed. It's gone from stock height, to a 3-5 drop ,back up to a 2-4 and is currently at 2-2. I found the 2-4 drop made the ass end look way too low. I took off the drop shackle and put the stock one back which gives a 2" drop in the rear. Now the truck has a slight rake (which I like). If you want a dropped truck to sit level, I guess you'd have to find a 3" shackle. I heard someone makes one. There's a link to pics of my truck if you look for my ad in the sale section. You can't go wrong with Bell-Tech or DJM parts. Citydriver gave a link to Stylin' Concepts, but you can also check out Jegs or Summit. Obviously the preferred vendors list here would also be a good place to look. Good luck and enjoy your project. Mike

Derek, not to step on any toes around here, but you might want to check out Fullsizechevy.com

There are many more slammed and lifted trucks over there and you will get lotsa free advice and also good galleries showing different drops. It's a lil rowdy for my taste, but it does have some good info.

Happy Hunting.

Thanks for the info guys. I will check out the site melbert.

Willys: What brand/how much was the 2/4 drop kit? Was it a kit? Were you satisfied with the product(s) aside from your dislike of the 4" rear drop?

Derek, All the parts are/were BellTech except the current front springs. They're AIM brand. I also have a BellTech 2-4 drop on my '93 truck. They make the best as far as I'm concerned. Price-wise, I remember the springs were about $70. I only bought what I needed to go from the flipkit back to a 2- 4" drop. Can't remember the cost. I think a complete kit from one of the vendors would be the cheapest way to get everything you need. BTW, don't forget to ask about the spacer for the left front spring pocket. If you don't put it in, you'll have a lean to the left. Hey, why don't you just buy my truck and you won't have to go through all this....LOL Hope that helps, Mike
