Funny, but definitely not good for domestic PR.

The anti's will use that pick very often to try and depict a savage mentality of American troops.

Look, that sort of adolescent horsesh## is just plain cowardice. Because of his smart-a$$ stunt, the next sign that Marine might be holding up is his incarceration number on his way into the brig.

For everyone on this forum who thinks that sort of thing is cute, put yourself in the place of his Commanding Officer. As Company Commander, you have a MISSION to accomplish, and you have received orders to enable you to carry out that mission. Will this clown be an asset or a liability as you try to follow those orders under difficult and perilous conditions?

You know the true and honest answer to that already.

Absolutely every single army has such types, and throughout history their commanding officers have tried to weed them out. Saddam Hussien's army had proportionately more of these sorts of ignorant and gutless sadists than the U.S. and British forces that defeated them. And one reason WHY the Iraqi army collapsed so rapidly is because the majority of the troops in that army saw entirely too much of this sort of sadistic cowardice from their officers. The ordinary Iraqi civilian and recruit is pretty decent, just like the ordinary citizens of all countries. When they encountered comparable attitudes from their commanders and the Baathist political controllers who really called the shots in the Iraqi armed forces, they completely lost respect for their leaders. So when the time came to oppose the U.S. and British forces that were coming at them, they simply dropped their weapons and went home.

Well, ok, not all armies try to weed them out. Hitler's army also had officers -- and some enlisted men -- with similiar attitudes, but in the Wehrmacht they got promoted. That gutless wonder who put that sign in the kid's hands would probably have made Oberstrumbahnfuhrer within three years.
