Aux Battery

Hey,

My 2001HD has the 2-battery option. I do not have a service manual yet, but was wondering how they were wired. More specifically, do both batteries start the truck? If not, I see a big advantage in being able to jumpstart your self or switch batteries and get the truck started in a pinch.

Leme know, thanks..............Zorrro

As far as I can tell, at least on my 2003 diesel where the 2nd battery is standard equipment (not an option), they are hard wired in parallel.

The "aux battery option" may well be a different animal.

I just got my truck I ordered with this option. It is confusing. GM has 2 dif battery options. The dual batterys (standard on the deisel) are just connected together. The other dual option is RPO 8BO. It costs more than the 1st option but has an isolator so you can run one down with no effect on the other. They both are connected when running so they both will charge. Look in the glove book for the RPO code it will tell you which one you have.
