Which direction to fire sub?

I'm hoping to replace a Bazooka tube with a 10" sub under the rear passenger seat of a 2001 extended cab silverado. I have a 5-channel Directed Amp that will put out enough power (can't emember the specs right now). Is a down-firing box better that up-firing or front-facing? It seems like most of the custom fit boxes are down-firing, is that the better way to go?

Also, any recommendations on 10" subs? I was thinking maybe JL based on some review I've seen online.

Thanks for any opinions

I'd say for space issues, go with a down firing box. They sound prety fricken good on most trucks too. For subs, I'm not sure where you can find them in your area, but I'd really reccomend a 10" Arc Audio subwoofer. I have their KAR series 12's, and I've only got a 550 watt amp for the both right now, but OMG! They sound sooooooooooooo good, never distorted, never too low or too high, and when I wanna show someone up I can just BLAST it. My cousin has the 10's, same models, nder his F-150's back seat, you would think they're 15's! For the money, you can't go wrong. They fit well in most shallow boxes and perform so good it's unbelieveable.

if you have enough power, get a 10" s10l7 kicker solobaric. If that's too much, go with a kicker compVR. they both hit hard. compVR sounds good sealed, firing down, but the solobaric sounds alot better ported. Then space is just the issue

Really the sub is up to you... I prefer Diamond Audio.... but Kicker isn't bad either.... I have mine set up in a down firing set up.... one ten, getting around 500 watts.....

Loud enough for me

I had a regular firing set up, and it seemed like when the seat was down, it would muffle the sound a little...

I've had up firing subs, down firing subs, and rear firing subs (in a suburban), but for a truck, I kinda like my up-firing kicker better. When I had the downward facing box and wanted to show-off the bass, it would shake the car so much that my multi-disk would skip. Now with my up-firing box it is still loud as all hell, can be heard outside the vehicle better, and does not make the multi-disc skip. Another plus of an up-facing box is tha tyou can get your girlfriend/wife to sit in the back very easily... :D:crackup:
