mass air sensor

On the Gen III Vortec's... one of the best mods seems to be a performance tune. Handheld programers will give an increase, but a good custom tune by Wester's or one of the others will make the most noticeable increase because not only do they tune the engine for more power, but better tranny performance also.

Of course letting it breathe will help make more power too.

It would help to know what you have...

Right now i have a supership microtuner and a k&n generation filter system on a 2000 z71 extended cab.I was really wondering if the mass air senser would let me get more air.I do not have duall exhaust it is stock and i wanted to leave it that way.

Even if you got a new Mass air sensor, it's my understanding that you'll stilll need a custom tune to let the computer know that you have a new one...so it lets in more air, and takes advantage of it. I don't believe that superchips can provide the tuning for a Mass air sensor other than stock. I could be wrong though.

From my experience, if you add a new performance part, especially something that changes the intake/exhaust of the car/truck, then disconnect the battery for approximately 10 minutes which resets the computer and puts it in "learn" mode. You computer will learn your driving style and the increased flow that the new MAF offers will be recognized. In my Camaro/Firebird days, we used to just work on the existing MAF and cut out the runners and take out the screen and do a polish job to smooth out the airflow. I noticed throttle response changes but nothing that was extreme SOTP! Just my $.02

The K&N will help for sure and the programmer can't hurt...some people have good results with the power tune on the HPP3 and others do not have good luck or feel any difference. It is better to get more air in and let more exhaust out...that will give you the best performance!
