Need an opinion on this truck

I am looking at a '98 single cab z71.

 

It's green, sliding rear window, bed liner, BFG's, and 79k miles. It appears to be in great shape and they are asking $9950.

 

 

I am open to any and all opinions you guys may have.

That sounds like a good truck. Most used Z-71's I've found for that price have 130,000+ miles.

I was also wondering if there is anything in particluar I should look at when buying a truck like this one?

It's always good to check the transmission and see how it shifts. I had a 1995 Chevy with a 350/auto and the transmission went out around 60,000 miles. You should also get Carfax report. It can tell you alot. Ask the owner to provide one and if they don't you can get a report for around $29. It can tell you how many owners there have been and if it has been in any accidents. It will also alert you for any mileage discrepencies. Good luck.

The CarFax is a given, it's already turned up clean

 

I planned to check the tranny and motor on the test drive and visually.

 

Is there a particular way to test the 4 wheel drive?

You could push/shift the truck into 4WD high on the pavement. Don't drive it, but you can make sure it will shift into 4WD. It sounds like you are getting a real good deal, good luck with the purchase.

Also, make sure the brakes are in good condition. The obs Silverados had rear drums, which tend to wear down faster.
