Trying to install different seats in 03 Silverado?

Hi all,

I'm trying to finish up the projects on my 03 Silverado. One of them was to replace the seats since I have the std. power (no lumbar, no power back) driver and manual passenger seat.

I bought H2 seats and they look great in it. The wiring harness connectors are compatible, but the wiring is different. If I plug either seat in (or just unplug the originals for that matter), the "service airbag" indicators come up on the dash. If I put the originals back in, it goes away.

That being said, when the H2 seat is installed, all power/lumbar options work fine (not heat, as I don't have heat control switches). I had it in for six weeks, but the airbag light was bothering me, so I'm trying to diagnose it.

Here are diagrams of the plugs, original seats, and the H2 seats...anyone have any ideas? By the way, there are no airbags in the seats themselves, or the doors, etc. Jut the 2 in the front.

I figured I'd start with the driver side (passenger side is going to be more complicated due to the airbag pressure switch which turns the airbag on/off; I have some ideas on that though if I can get the driver side to go in w/o airbag warnings) and see if I can get it. I NEED HELP!

Sorry I don't have any advice for you, but what are you going to do with your factory seats?

If they are leather and gray, I may be interested.

Thanks and good luck!

They are leather, they are gray, and if I get these H2 seats to work, they will be for sale. They have about 6k miles on them and look near new (passenger looks new). Driver is 6 way power, passenger is manual.

For the higher end trucks and H2's the passanger seat has a sensor in it to tell the air bag to stay on, turn off or how much to inflate. Its so if you have a light person/kid in the front the air bag wont kill them. Sounds like you need to just find which wire it is and not hook that one up. Good luck!

pacethis,

Ok, I made you some pinout tables for the different connectors. I own the actual GM Service Manuals for the 2003 Silverado/Sierras, so based on your info I was able to find the connector info. I have 3 pages detailing the 2003 Silverado's seat to body harness connections that you need based on what you posted. Also included is a schematic showing the potential issue.

I've sent you an email cuz I will need to send you a file - I can email the file to you in any format you'd like: Word doc, Visio (if you don't know what this is, you don't want it), or Adobe Acrobat PDF. Please respond to my email and you'll have the file.

The schematic is the SIR Seat Position Switches. Let's start with the driver's door: Look at the floor connector (body harness), your pin "F" - this is the Seat Position Switch wire coming from the Inflatable Restraint Sensing & Diagnostic Moduel (SDM). Problem is on your new H2 seat, Pin "F" is not used. I think this may be the problem. The SDM is not receiving a valid signal, so it's setting the light on. You will see the same issue on the passenger side as well. Also, the 2-wire connector is for the I/P Module Disable Switch, which you will also have a pin-out diagram for.

Not EXACTLY sure how to go about fixing this. I don't have the H2 wiring diagrams to work with, so I can't compare the two. Your best bet is to find the corresponding wire in the H2 seats.

Hopefully this will help get you in the right direction to find a resolution. If I can be of any more help, let me know.

And by the way, thank you very much for the lookup on this. Sounds like it's enough to get me started. Hopefully I can get the diagrams from you via email and then I'll try to get the ones for the H2 seats and get it all done...

I'm excited!

I'll send it to you - it's on my desktop and right now my laptop's got the internet connection cuz I'm doing work from home (long story but it actually is because I had to go have a talk with my GMC dealer's service dept). So you should have it sometime tonight.

Also, if you need ANY info on the 2003 Silverado, let me know. I have the full set of books, so I can look up pretty much anything. Heck, if you're in NJ I'd let you borrow them.

Oh yeah, suggestion: Become REALLY good friends with someone at your local H2 dealership. They've got the books you'll need. Maybe they'd be nice and print the wiring diagrams out from Service Information System.

Thanks a million! That gives me 100% of the info from the silverado I needed...now I've got to match it up with H2 info...

Still waiting on denali console top trim, but once that and the H2 seats are in, it should look great!

Jim,

One more thing, should I be fortunate enough to find these H2 service manuals somewhere, what's the quickest way to find these diagrams in them?
