4-WD hub nut removal

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of changing my 75 K5 Blazer from full time to locking hubs. The switch is simple enough but I can't get the hub nut off to re-pack the brgs. There is no key or snap ring that I can see. I bench 280lbs and am using a 3/4 in breaker bar. Something is holding it, any Ideas?

Righty tighty lefty loosey? J/K

The nut should not be tight at all. Final torque is something like 35lbs.(correct me if I'm wrong).

Is there any rust?

Does it appear to have been cross threaded?

Maybe use a larger breaker bar. I like to use the handle on my floor jack in combination with the breaker bar when I need extra leverage to break a bolt/nut.

It should be around 100 to 150 ft lbs. There are 2 nuts in there. A outer one torqued against a locking ring and a inner one. If you are trying to get the outer on off you need to torque it until it breaks lose. The previous owner must have gotten carried away torqueing it on.
