New suburban

Well I did it. I traded in my Silverado for a new 2500 4x4 LT suburban with the rear dvd package. With the new addition to the family (a baby girl) my wife and I decided that the suburban would be more family friendly for us. I'm sure it will and it is a a great ride but I allready miss my truck :flag: . :flag: . I have a couple of Questions allready that I hope someone here can answer because my dealer doesn't seem like they can. They keep telling me that they will look into it and get back to me :flag: The Suburban has the "Bose System " in it but I can't find the subwoofer :flag: there seems to be a place in the back on the drivers side that looks like a sub should be there (a round area in the plastic wall) but no holes are cut and if I reach my hand back behind the plastic through the jack storage area there is nothing. Did I get cheated :flag: or are they hiding it somewhere else? It sure doesn't sound like there is one anywhere. I thought the "Bose System" had one? It also has XM radio But It will only give me the channel number and the channels name, no Song title or artists name like my old Delphi Skyfi. If I am in FM and the channel has info it gives me the song title and artist so why doesn't the XM do the same? Is something wrong with mine? Please help. Thanks to all :) This Forum rocks :cool:I miss my truck  I hope I didn't make a huge Mistake :flag:

BTW574 is correct on the subwoofer. The 2000-2000 Suburbans/Tahoes had a Subwoofer mounted in the driver side rear enclosure. Starting in 2003, the subwoofer was moved to underneath the front part of the center console.

As for the XM, I don't understand what the issue could be. I have XM in each of my vehicles, and haven't encountered this problem. My 03 XL Denali would be the closest to your Suburban, but the Denali model as a different headunit so I'm not sure how to work your headunit's interface.

Hope you in enjoy the new Suburban.

You can scroll by artist and song by pressing the display button. Once you find the info you like, press and hold the display button for a few seconds and it will set it at that feature.

Bert, what color is your Sub? I have a Silver Birch 1500LT that I immediately put 3M paint protection film on for the long drives behind a sand truck on the way to Lake Tahoe. If you have a dark color, you'll quickly find out what color primer GM uses.

DVD player rocks. I think the best sound is in the third row.

Like BTW said, subwoofer is under the front console. I almost freaked out when I couldn't find that 9th speaker too. Crank up the music and you can feel the air port on the passenger side just below the cupholders.

One last suggestion - get a decent jack. Ended up sticking a 6 ton bottle jack behind the subwoofer blankoff since that stock jack is trash. Had a flat at 2500 miles and really hated cranking that scary little thing under the frame. It won't lift the hub high enough to slip in the spare. :seeya:

Supurban the color is Dark Gray Metallic. I haven't even tried out the DVD yet and I have allready got another jack and it just so happens to be a 6 ton bottle jack as well. I cut out the plastic under the little lid above where they use to put the sub in the back drivers side, just behind the original jack storage. You have to be careful if you do this because there is a small brace that attaches there but I cut around it you can feel it from the jack storage hole. There was quite abit of room in there to store a tow rope, jumper cables, jack, and hitch gear. When the lid is closed you don't even know that its there :P And as for 01Burbs great sugestion on new rims I allready have some 16x8 Boyd Revolvers from my Silverado. :D The problem there is I have 285/75/16 mounted on them and they won't even come close to fitting  . I tried the torsion bars which helped a little but not enough  . So I have been trying to figure out what to do. Performance Accessories Lists a 3 inch body lift for the 2004 2500 Suburban but when I called they told me that it was a typeo and they do not have one yet for the 2500. So my next solution is to buy some 265/75/16 to mount on them. I don't understand how others can get there 285's to fit because mine don't even come close  If they were close I would shave it some like I did on my Silverado.

What motor do you have? I highly recommend the air filter and Westers upgrades. Did wonders for my Yukon. Also, with a family, you will love this vehicle. It's my second one and I have four kids. Plus, I can haul almost as much as a truck. Moved my older kids several times now and don't miss a truck at all.:thumbs:

I'd reccomend getting a performance chip, an air intake, and exhaust. As for exhaust, it all depends on how loud you want it, what you're going to use the vehicle for, if you have younger kids, like tots, etc. I always reccomend an exhaust for almost any vehicle, since with the right setup it can fit anyones needs and ears. You CAN notice mileage increases and seat-of-the-pants differences with the right setup. Just think about wat you'd like if you're willing to go with an exhaust system, and I'll help you choose the right one

Hey Bert,

Ive got an 04 2500 ls with all the electronics minus the sunroof and on star (its got bose, rse, xm, rear seat audio controls) and have made the 1st summer trip with it and I dont how I lived without the rse! my twins watched finding nemo 3 times before we got to grandpa's house and they loved every minute of it! The only time they complained was when it was over and they wanted to see it again!

As for the performance mods Ive alread installed a Volant air Intake and B&B Triflow exhaust and have a westers pcm on the way.

The volant has a nice fit and is realitively quite unless you really open it up....Noticed a huge difference sotp with this addition. I also like the the exhaust because its not offensive at highway speeds but sounds great on acceleration and and isnt too loud at idle....At 75 its almost not noticeable until you tromp on the gas to blow by the little honda trying to cut you off!

Anyway, Enjoy....Im loving my 9.6 mpg avg! Worth every penny after the last trip!

Hey Bert, I was thinking about that little compartment and was trying to find a plastic tub that would fit in there once the bottom was cut out. Glad to hear from someone who already took a knife to it. I think I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

I bought my 89 4x4 burb new when we had twins (we already had one child too) and I have never regreted it. It is still a fine ride and though we mostly use it for traveling now I have no plans of replacing it though I may retire it in another 6 years or so when kids finish college. It is cherry still with 170,000 miles on Mobile One since new and runs like new and will do 17mpg or better under 70mph on trips. You did not make a mistake.

Hey Supurban There is a brace that conects to that bottom plastic so don't think that it will be full size tub to the bottom if that makes any sense  . (but great idea about the tub I may try that )I just used a utility knife. But feel underneath from the jack hole first for that brace before you cut. It will give you alot more space.

    • Did you ever get this worked out? Mike is doing the two start thing now too. This is after a new camera back in December.
    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because it’s in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
