EGR test .. does this make sense?

I took my egr valve off as I ordered a new one which will be in tomorrow..  I put it upside down and poured a little fuel on the valve side.  after a few seconds little air bubbles start to come up.  is this a leaky egr?  would this cause long crank times at start up?  and start and stall situations on very cold start ups?  rough idle when the engine is cold?    seems to run good after warmed up though.

Man, you have had such a rough time with this problem!

I wish I could help more, but I can't even remember the sequence of events here.

This may hurt, but could you update everyone on the situation? Maybe some new ideas will surface.

OK HERE GOES..  It's an '88 Chev. C1500 350 TBI.  135,000KM's.  The problem is that since I bought it last summer it always had long crank times on first start of the day..  which didn't really bother me because it ran great other than that.  Now winter came..  when it's very cold out on the first start it will crank for it's same period of  time but when it starts it will fire up and kill it self.  second restart is ussually ok.  when it's a little  warmer it starts drops down and kicks back up and stays running.. it seem to idle a little rough but I always let it warm up for at least 10 mins and it's ok after that.

the other thing was when it was cold even after running 10-15 mins the first time I would go to take off it seemed to hesitate a little.  I used to get an intermittent code 44 which is lean exhaust.. after replacing the o2 sensor I was intermittently getting a code 45 rich exhaust..  these would only come up after first start and letting it idle for a while.  I haven't had any codes come up now in over a month.. but here's waht's been done since I bought the truck..

- new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coil, fuel pump all ac delco

- new edelbrock performer intake, cam, chain, lifters

- rebuilt fuel sending unit

here's things I've tried..  throttle body with all sensors, fuel press regulator injectors, map sensor, egr I will be replacing tomorrow..  I've also watched the injectors as someone cranked it over and there's fuel that comes out instantly as you start cranking..  If i pour a little fuel in the tb before starting it will fire up instantly.  or if I pump the gas a little while cranking it will also fire right up.  I've also tried a buddie's spare computer.  out of all the things that have been done the pinging I used to get when passing someone and the full throttle bog is gone now.  the long crank time and the start & stall or start & drop & pickup is still there..  it's almost like as soon as it starts it gets a gust of air and either stalls it or almost stalls it..  with the new cam & intake it has lot s more power I must add..  coolant temp sensor is within 1 degree.   timing is right on.  hope someone can come up with something!  I'm not keeping my hopes up on the egr fixing the problem.

thks
