Air filter reset guage?

Hi all,

 

Well I went to check my airfilter and it was pretty nasty, Eventhough that air filter gauge still was reading fine. I changed the filter and no matter what I due i can not get that gauge thing to move. So i'm wondering if it's broke or that spring in it is messed up.

 

does that guage part due anything besides check the air flow? If it is messed up would it do anything to the air system?

You really can't determine how dirty the air filter is by that guage. The way its supposed to work is that as the air filter gets dirty, the engine has to work harder to draw air thru the filter (hardly noticeable unless the filter is clogged with mud or has been in the truck for way too long), thus creating a vacuum that pulls the little plunger towards the air filter box. I have never seen one work properly.

 

I check my air filter every time I change the oil in the truck. Also, my air filter guage broke shortly after the first oil change, so I removed it and plugged up the hole.

mine never moved, but i replaced the filter at 20k.

How did you remove it? just pull it out of the air box??

Yup, thats all I did. I installed a plug (old bolt) that fit tightly into it. Hasn't moved in over 11,000 miles.

Yes the indicator is a piece of junk. Never moved. Before I replaced it with the FIPK, I pulled it out and applied some suction to it. It needs some pretty good suction before that thing will ever move.
