97 Chevy Vortec on propane

HELLO

 

I have a 97 Chevy 1/2 ton A/T with a 5.7. I am planning to put it on dual fuel propane/gas. but I understand if you don't get the AIR/FUEL just right it can backfire and if it backfires hard it my crack or blow apart the air intake tube. So my ? is what is involved in adjusting the fuel mix to get around this???

Propane take a very rich mixture compared to gas. Make sure your kit has be calibrated for that engines needs. Too lean a mixture, gas or propane can backfire.

I have ordered the kit that has all the stuff i need. the 300a mixer, Model E heat exchanger, the Dual curve ECM and all the adapters. how do i tune the mixture. Is there any specail tools or engine monitors i would have to have to get the air fuel mix right?

If it interfaces with ECM, it should properly adjust mixture for you. Also since Propane has a much lower energy content than gas it will take more fuel as well ti run it so size your propane tank accordingly. l
