My friend is getting a new cam in his 1997 SS Camaro. I am curious if i can put his old one into my 1992 K1500 5.7 liter 350. ANd if it is possible would i see any power gains?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the cams for the LS-1 style engine will not fit any other chevrolet small block. I remember reading somewhere that the cam is even four inches shorter than a regular chevrolet small block cam. Hope this helps!

The LS1's aren't a considered a SBC

yes the ls-1's are a chevrolet small block, but they are of a different kind. As in nothing on the engine (that I can think of) works on a chevrolet 350 tbi engine.

Show me where Chevrolet says its a "SBC", the LS1 engines are in no way close to a "SBC"

If we are talking about the recent Vette 350, it is related to the old small block only in name (350) not is design.

First I owned both an LT1 and an LS1 Camaro Z28

The LT1 is a 350

The LS1 is a 346

The parts are not interchangable at all.

The Ls1 isn't a "350" or a "SBC"

I'm really curious as to where you get your information, or do you just think up stuff and consider yourself right because you have nothing better to do?

Again the LS1 is a 346 not a 350.

Ask any Z28 or vette owner.

Better yet go to www.Chevy.com and check out the engine specs on a 2004 Vette.

Last time I checked Chevrolet only made two types of v-8 gas internal combustion engines. A small block and a big block. 305, 325, 327, 346, 350, et cetera are all considered to be small blocks. The point of this post is say that the LS-1 cam won't work, not to get technical about teh specific classification of the LS-1 engine. Oh yea, its called a small block because of its bore and stroke size.

Yes it is a small block, but not a "small block chevy" it is made by gm of course but it is not is the Small block Chevy because it is totally different and in no way close to the desogn of a SBC.
