Mounting Depth

Before I go buy new component speakers to put in the door of my '01, does anybody know of any speakers that are too deep to fit? I know that I can use either 6.5 or 6.75, but I'd hate to buy something and then find out it doesn't fit. I looked at Crutchfiield, but they only show what they sell, and there seems to be a lot of component sets that they do sell that don't come up in the search.

Usually most brands will fit right in, or you can always make a spacer ring with some 1/4 mdf board. What speaker did you have in mind? I have used CDTs, Image Dynamics, and currently DynAudio in my front doors...all were 6.5" sets.

One good thing to think about is to make sure that you do not put a "woofer" of "sub-woofer" in the factory mid-bass location. Usually, most "woofers" or "subs" are much deeper and can have problems with the windows rolling down. Or, like dsz71 mentioned, if you run into this issue, there are spacers available. The only vendor that I have had trouble with in the past was Kicker. I put a set of 6.5" free-air woofers in the doors and, sure enough, the window would not go all the way down. It was not that big of a deal, since it was more important to me for the window to be able to go all the way up anyway.

Most 6.5 midrange speaker are a type of woofer, or driver. Just not huge in diameter like you would think of when you talk about sub-woofers. There are several companies who offer a 3 way component set that includes an 8" mid driver. Its just not a subwoofer because its not designed to hit the lower notes of a subwoofer.
