Chevy Astro...Express

i know they are not pickups, but i would like some information about problems to look out for in astro and express vans.  any common problems or defects?

The Express is the full-size van while the Astro is the compact (not really mini) van.  They're both traditional body-on-frame vans, I believe, and they drive and ride like vans, not front wheel drive minivans.

 

The Express has, IMO, the best driver and front-seat passenger accommodations of all vans.  I rented an Astro once and found it to be very uncomfortable for the driver -  there was nowhere to put my left foot.

I have a 2000 express van at the office. It's 2 years old with 30,000 miles. It has not had any problems yet. It is a 1 ton with a 350 V8 auto.

 

It has plenty of power, and gives a good ride.

Did you guys see they are adding an All-Wheel-Drive Option on the Express and Sanvana Vans for 2003?

The Astro has the same engine and running gear as the S-10's/S-Blazer's (Not TrailBlazer).  So whatever maintanence or problems you hear with the 4.3L V6 also apply to the Astro.
