Well guys, since it appears I'm not gonna be getting a different truck anytime soon I need to spend my money on something.  Might as well be on the truck.   ;)

Now keep in mind it is very cold here right now, and since they didn't start on our garage in time I need something that can be done in less then a couple of hours.  Don't really want to freeze my hands off doing this.  Most of them are pretty common stuff, so I don't really need to tell you much about them.  Probably haven't heard of the Kennedy headlight harness though.  It replaces the skimpy factory headlight wiring with high quality wiring that gets power directly from the alternator.  It also makes all four headlights come on with the brights and has higher output bulbs.  It comes highly recommend from all that have installed it.  You can check it out right here

Any and all thoughts are welcome.

Well, I voted for to wait til summer and get the crate motor.

I think you've been saying you wanted a crate motor for some time now. I'd say go ahead and get that out of the way.

Plus, we wouldn't want you freezing your grubby little paws off, now do we? ;) J\K

Save the bucks. You must at least be thinking about a new tranny and engine, or you wouldn't have included it as a choice in the poll. Being an '89 truck, you must have a few miles on her already. Why invest more into the old powertrain, when you really want (or need) a new one. If you can't afford the new truck, and your body is in good shape, I would go for the repower. Also, saving the money keeps you from going out in the cold to do the other stuff. Stay warm. Stay rich.

...just my 2¢

Yeah, its getting a few miles on the powertrain.  The odometer broke awhile back, but it has around 155k on it.  Its all original powertrain wise, and still runs good.  I'm just thinking I could use some more power, and reliability.  Just don't know how much you can trust a truck getting this kind of miles on it.

The nice thing about all the stuff I mentioned getting, is that it can be used with the motor I would swap in.  I plan on using the TBI, the same exhaust (if I were to get new stuff), etc.

In that case, then I would say do it. Pick one of those other 4 things you mentioned. Money burns a hole in my pocket too. I know how you feel. You're bored, you want a new toy, and you can't wait until spring, right?   :sneek:

I still can't believe I was able to hold out as long as I did with my own savings, before dumping it on the new ride. My '85 El Camino had 225,000 mi. on it when I sold it in Oct. last year.  Good old 305/4bbl still ran good too. If you only have 155K on your truck, you got a long way to go. Remember, it's a Chevy man. LIKE A ROCK

I voted for the FIPK.. If you're keeping the truck and can't save the cash, the FIPK may help your exhaust, even if its lame.  Plus it can go on in a half hour and no cold hands!

Yeah, with this many miles I'm sure it will probably last me the last 3 semesters of college that I'm gonna need it as a daily driver.  But if either the motor or tranny start go south, thats where the motor swap will come it.  Probably isn't much point in replacing either of them while they both still work.  LOL  If anybody is interested, you can take a look at the crate motor I want by going to this site.

At this point in time I will probably either do the headlight harness or the FIPK since they take less time to install.  That way I can replace this exhaust in the spring when its warmer.  (that is if the junk doesn't rust off between now and then)

My suggestion on a truck like this, do something cheap or something that you can take off and put on a different truck when the time comes.  What those things are, I don't know what you are thinking of.
