I am curious to 2WD Z71s...especiall in Crew Cab configuration. I read an article (I believe on this site) where GM was gonna make 2WD Z71's that sat 2-3 inches higher...bascially a factory lift kit in my opinion. I am very interested in this as I plan on getting a crew next year....and probably will not get 4WD. Anyone know about this?? Thanx---ASUS

:sigh:

The new Colorado/Canyon trucks are available in a 2WD Z71...haven't heard anything about the full-size trucks with this option.

Found the article on the news part of this site. It talks about a 2wd Z71 with a 6.0L 400HP engine..nice. But I just want a 2wd Crew Z71 with the 5.3L engine.--ASUS

The two-wheel-drive off-road market is growing rapidly. Chevrolet responds by offering its Off-Road Performance Z71 package in both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations. As demonstrated in the Silverado Z71 Extended Cab 4x2 that is shown at the 2003 SEMA event, Chevy’s Z71 4x2 Off-Road package can deliver a great deal of performance – on and off the road.

Any discussions of Silverado Z71 Extended Cab 4x2 must begin with the powertrain. Under the hood is the 6.0-liter LQ9 V-8 engine found on Silverado SS production models. However, thanks to cylinder head and camshaft modifications and a GM air box that has been modified for increased airflow and a K&N Filtercharger rechargeable cloth air filter, the LQ9 housed in this special Silverado produces over 400 horsepower at 6100 rpm and over 405 lb.-ft. of torque at 4600 rpm.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels via GM’s Hydra-Matic 4L65-E Heavy Duty four-speed automatic transmission, while spent gases are exhausted via a Corsa Performance cat-back stainless steel exhaust system with polished dual 4-inch outlet tips.

Silverado Z71 Extended Cab 4x2 also features a limited-slip, posi-traction, 4.10:1 differential to enhance off-road capability and a four-wheel-disc, four-wheel anti-lock braking system for improved braking performance, especially in low-traction situations.

Off-road performance on this vehicle begins with a suspension system that has been raised 3 inches from the production model for optimal increased ground clearance. This was accomplished via the use of front and rear springs and the larger, 20-inch wheels and tires combination. Helping to protect vital underbody components during off-road situations are skid plates for the front suspension, engine oil pan, transmission oil pan and the fuel tank.

Outside, Silverado Z71 Extended Cab 4x2 features tubular aluminum side assist steps, tubular aluminum front “bull guard” and three-dimensional expanded-metal front grille screens. The exterior is finished in BASF Thunderstone Metallic and features PPG Midnight Silver accent color on the mirrors, cowl panel, front valance, rear bumper step pad, side assist steps and the front bull guard.

Once inside the vehicle, driver and passengers are treated to front bucket seats and a rear bench seat that are trimmed in preferred light neutral suede side bolsters, lentil suede inserts and olive piping. The door trim panels are also finished in lentil suede and lentil is used on the instrument panel. The instrument panel bezels and switch bezels are finished in Midnight Silver, while the interior trim panels feature a light neutral shade. For easy cleanup, Silverado Z71 Extended Cab 4x2 also features black rubber floor covering.

:sigh: why is chevy putting this option package on every vehicle it makes now. The Z71 pkg is a 4wd fullsize truck package and thats how it should stay. You dont see any Z24 silverados do you??? :)

Hasn't the Z71 package just turned into an appearance package?

The Blisteins and tires/wheels are still extra aren't they?

Z71 might as well be an appearance package with the number of people that seem to spend extra for it, just to run the truck from the dealer to an outfitter and put a lift kit on it with new shocks as well.

the silverados dont even come with bilstein shocks (99+ trucks). They are tennecos.
