Extended Warranty?

My 99 Z-71 Silverado is just about to expire it's original factory warranty (36k).  I've had a number of things go so far and I'm getting nervous, steering column shaft, bumper rusted through, throttle body assembly replaced because pedal stuck, ABS module went.  They quoted me a bumper to bumber warranty, ? ded. up to 100K miles for ?.  What do you think?  The policy is also cancelable and transferrable.  It's a lot of money, but so are repairs.  I gotta act quick....only 200 miles to go.

With all the problems you've had so far, it sounds like a good insurance policy to me.  Just make sure you read the fine print and make sure there aren't any exclusions that could really bite you in the ass.

Some of those warranties are negotiable to an extent...   offer them ? and see what they can do.

When you cancel it you lose alot on it, and it's hard to recover most of it when you trade or sell outright.

How many years is the warranty good for?  It seems like you drive about 12-15K year, and if the warranty is good for only 2 additional years then it's not worth it in my opinion.

The warranty is for 5 years or 100k.  I'll hit 100k before the five years.  Also, the warranty is cancelable and prorated and it's transferrable.  I'm just so nervous about all of the repairs that I've had so far.  It doesn't cover maintenance type items, as you may expect.

What do you think?  I need to decide by tomorrow.

Is that 5 additional years from when your standard warranty expires (making a total of 8 full years?)  Or is it for 2 additional years making a total of 5 years?

If it is for 5 additional years and expires in July 2006 then it sounds like a decent deal for ? especially if it is bumper to bumper.

The trick here would be to take the truck in when you have several things wrong so you only have to pay the ? deductable once...  (you should clarify that with the insurance/warranty company first).  Make sure that it is ? per visit and not ? per item...   for example:

If you have 4 things to look at (2 rattles/blower fan/rear end noise) then you would have ? out of pocket even if you had them checked out all on the same visit!!!

There is alot of fine print in these agreements so read it in between the lines and ask alot of questions before writing the check!!!

Remember: the only "stupid" question is the one not asked.

I'll make sure, but it can't be an additional 2 years.  Id have to drive 64k in 2 years if it's a 5 year/100k policy.  I'm positive that it's an additional 5 years, but like I mentioned, I'll hit 100k first, probably a little over 4 additional years.  I'll make sure it's ? per appointment.  But, it's hard to save those things up since it pretty much just covers the power train, electrical system, and other mechanical parts (air), etc.

Hey guys I just bought the 5 yr 100k mile warranty for my 2000. I already have around 38k on my truck. It is 62 miles to work and back everyday. But, the catch is from the inservice date for the 5 yr. I bought from GM. Ken Fictner Chevrolet to be exact. (Fitchner?) I hope to not  use it but it is just like any other insureance, is it worth it or not. You be the judge. I too have had my throttle body replaced and one of the driving lights had water in it.

I've been thinking about the entended warranty as well.  To date, I've have my entire driveshaft replaced (U-joingts went at 24,000!), passenger front seatbelt replaced, new rear windows, re-secured front windows, 3 Service Engine Soon Lights, both door latch mechanisms, and the weather-stripping seals re-attached on the passenger side (plus all the know TSBs, like trans, etc.)  I've got a little more time than you to decide (now at 28,000), but I'm leaning for not upping for the warranty.  There comes a point when enough is enough...and I'm never going to buy first model year from GM again...I though I would be "better" with my truck having an April build date, that it was later in the model year...nope.  A lot to be gained by waiting for the factory to work the bugs out..I'm going to work the factory warranty for all it is worth...but the first major repair out of that is gonna be an ugly customer service brawl...and then it is going up for sale.
