S.E.S. light on '99 silverado.  Help!

Hello, my Mom's boyfriend has a '99 Silverado and just recently he has been having some problems.  He says that sometime after driving and coming to a stop the engine will die and then it will restart but it takes a few seconds to turn over.  The idle is rough and the S.E.S. light comes and goes.  Is there any way I can read the code(s) without a scanner?  I have two cars with OBDI and all I need to do is jumper pins a,b in the diagnostic port to read the code(s).  Is this possible with OBDII?  Have any of you had these sypmtoms and what was the end result?

Thanks,

Chris

I'm not sure, but i think GM issued a computer reprogram that should fix that issue. It's a warrenty thing, and wont' cost you anything to get it looked at.

It really sounds like it is time for a trip to the dealer. I have not heard of this problem and I am keeping up with the common problems. Shot in the dark it almost sounds like bad gas (water) or clogged fuel filter (replace). Just my .02

He will be taking it in to the dealership soon as I have advised him to.  I looked over the truck a couple of day's ago, and I can't see anything wrong.  The fuel filter was changed back in May and he just had some full throttle fuel injector cleaner put in at his friend's Jiffy lube.  I am thinking that maybe the PCM program is corrupted and will need to be re-flashed.  I think there is a service bulletin out on this.  I'll let you know what the dealer finds out.
