Adding Rear Radio Controls

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 Yukon XL SLT 2500 and I am looking to add the the rear radio controls. Besides the controls themselves, what else do I need? A wiring harness I would assume to connect the controls to the radio, or do they install it from the factory regardless? Is it just a straight forward install... Just plug & play or will the BCM need to be flashed?

Thanks! :jester:

The BCM doesn't have anything to do with the stereo on pre-2003 trucks. So good news there.

I am really suprised your Yukon didn't come with the controls being an SLT.

I added the controls to my 99 Tahoe, but I am using an aftermarket headunit and a SWI-x module. I added the steering wheel controls and just went ahead and hooked up the rear too. You are going to need the harness from a console that is for the rear controls. I think the harness just goes up to where the cassette player plugs in and T-s in there. That is how is was on my brother's 2002 Tahoe. There may be other connections that I couldn't see with just the console removed though.

See if you can't find that harness, I think that would be the first step.
