AC Oil Filter PF59

I don't know if this is a freak thing or not. I just purchased 2 new AC filters and while adding a little oil to the seal, prior to installation, it fell off the filter. I looked at the other one and it was installed without any adhesive too. Is this something new? Maybe I haven't noticed it before. Could this prevent the seal from galling when tightening? Could someone verify, if they have a spare filter laying around. Need to know if I have defective items or not. Thanks...

I just changed mine before I read the post. I can't remember the new one but the old one (fram :puke: ) the seal stayed on the motor after removing the filter. Good thing I looked before installing the new.

Nope,No adhesive on AC oil filters,The seal is just kinda held on by a little bending of the metal around it,You don't have defective filters,Just gently push the seal back in place and you should be alright :D

yeah, there's no need to glue the gasket down. Just make sure when you change your filter that you visually inspect the mating surface on the engine to ensure the old gasket came off with the filter, as well as for debris. A double gasketed filter will make one hell of a mess, and later blow the motor if you don't notice the massive leak!

Never had that happen on the AC filters I have been buying. Rubber gasket always seemed to be intact before and after filter changes.

Just went and looked at my back-up PF-59 filter. The rubber gasket does easily pop out, but just as easily pops back into place. Seems to re-seat nicely, so I can't see any problems arising.
