My EGR went on my 95 4.3, it would start runnin funny and loose power, so the dealer changed it. Soon after problem came back, they told us it was because of bad design, so they showed us the fix, place a socket extension on the EGR and hit it with a hammer untill the vehicle idles right again. It worked, all we did was carry the parts around and hit it when it needed it. So try a new one, but if problem still occurs, try GM's fix.

My 95 S10 4.3 was having all the symptoms of egr probs. This remedy with the hammer and socket extension worked perfectly...Thank you

pretty important for what? all it does is cut down on pinging by dumping exhaust gases back into the intake==> combustion chamber.

 

Its not ODB2 ditch it and find a shop that'll pass it when inspection time comes around it'll help a little bit in the low end power and you'll see a slight increase in gas mileage.

 

Its not hard at all to make a block off plate

Why not try cleaning it first, and if that doesn't work, you can try something else. The extension/hammer fix would suggest it's getting stuck, which means cleaning it out with some brake cleaner or something may take care of it for a while.

 

BTW, this thread is almost 3 years old?

hey just for word of help

they offer a screen gasket for those as well helps block the carbon from getting inside

like 5 bucks in the help section of advance auto

Hi guys, I have a Blazer 92 4.3L and my EGR valve is dead, is there a way to clean it or I must buy a new one?

i hava a95 and the chevy garage cleand it and it worked those things are so exspensive

How do you clean it? Brake cleaner? How much is a new one?

 

WOW just checked the price $162.00 from NAPA, loos like cleaning it is the way to go. Why in the one post did they say you don't need this and it will up mpg?
