new old truck ideal

I've been looking at a neighbors 1971 Chevy c10, it's in pretty rough shape but I'm not looking for something to restore to new. any way it needs a new motor, 3 speed trans so I'd like to swap it too. I'm playing with ideal in my head, since we haven't come to terms on the value of his truck. I got an 88 350 out of a k2500 with the 5 speed trans in the barn. it's out of a 4x4 of course and I'm wanting to put it in a 2 wd.

what do i have to get rid of the transfer case? I mean can i just unbolt it and bolt on a trail piece back on it, or do i have to replace the shaft? I'm really wanting to use the HD trans, but would i be better off trying to trade for a 2wd trans?

it uses a fluid clutch and the truck has a Manuel one. does anyone know of kit i can buy to make the swap or and i looking at some serious bone yard customizing?

like I say not worried about keeping original. if i can get it all worked out, in a few years i should have a decent hot rod. thinking of putting a set of vortec heads and a elderbrock intake with a Holley 4 barrel. hopefully a mild rebuild. it ran alright before the truck had a small cab fire, but it's set for a while now. maybe i can go with a 6.0/5 speed, now that'd be a truck. but might be a good ideal if i have to replace the tranny and the 350 is shot. wander if anyone makes a carb type intake for the new 6.0.

anyone know any good sites that might have some ideals on this. I could do a 4x4 ford, understand the front out put side is on the correct side, humm wander how close the firewalls on a mid 70's ford is to a early 80's ford.... just thinking. NM ford trucks before 1978 are kinda hard to find around here it seems.
