GF7PE Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 anyone know what the deal is with 16.5" rims? pros / cons? i have heard that you cant air down past 20 psi. Is that true?
Frank S Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Don't know why the size would matter on the air down part, unless the tires aren't made properly. I do know that 16.5" is the size the Ford Superduty's come in so make sure if you plan to buy a set that you are getting the 8 on 6.5 bolt circle, otherwise you'll need an adapter.I believe tires may also be somewhat more expensive due to it being somewhat of an oddball size rim.
GF7PE Posted August 21, 2004 Author Posted August 21, 2004 well I got a sweet deal on some Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip 37x12.50x16.5 and I am just trying to decide if its worth it to use them. Do i get cheap wagon wheel rims for the winter or some better ones and use them year round. But when I go out on the beach you are required to air down to 15-18 psi. so......
Hecktorx Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 The big thing with 16.5" wheels is that size does not have the safety lips other sizes have. A 15, 16, 17 etc... have a small lip about 3/4" to 1" from each edge of the wheel. This is there to help the bead stay in place. 16.5" don't have this. That is the concern about airing down the tires to much.
The SPEEDY Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Getting under the hood of the 30th? It's on now! Get yourself a decent air gun and blow his head off.
