POWER WINDOW MAINTENANCE

Recommended Posts

I know a lot of people have had power windows fail in the GM trucks. The last few months my wifes car has had the driver side window going up slow. (It would go down normally.) I took a can of silicone spray and a cloth rag and cleaned out everwhere the window glides against. I even took a small flat head screwdriver and put the saturated rag on it and cleaned deeper in the channels. Next I took the silicone with the straw attached to the spray button and shot a light coat into the channel all around, even down inside the door frame. Window is now operating like new. I did the same to my truck, hopefully this will decrease drag on the motors and save some big bucks!

good idea. i've noticed mine started rattling a little on the driverside. for anyone with that same problem, it's very easy to remove the door panel (pull up and out) and tighten the bolts.

also, if your window mechanism is shot, be it the motor or the rails, I've had one of the non-OEM $60 replacements in my truck (passenger side) from eBay for around a month or so now. i'm very happy with it, much smoother than the original. includes motor, rails, etc. complete.
