Anyone have to repace the front wheel bearings? I went to the local part shop today and they said I had to buy the whole hub assembly. $275CAN. So I'm hoping someone here has been able to replace the bearings?

Thanks for your time,

I just had my right bearing done. The paperwork from the dealership said hub assembly, so you must have to buy the whole kit. Just make sure your spindles are good.

If its 4 wheel drive, it is a hub bearing assy...unfortunately, I dont think you can just press a bearing in the hub, it is replaced as an assembly

p.s. Welcome to the Forum

Wish it was under better circunstances :P

It's all one part/ Assembly, Can't be taken apart and there is no core on em. $275 is a really good price for an ABS assembly.

Stealership wanted over $400 for a non ABS for my truck, Picked 2 brand new up on Ebay for $80 each.

The bearing assembly can be had for about $140US + shipping from GMPartsDirect.Com - that's for the 2500 4wd hub assembly - the half-ton assembly may be cheaper.

I know the exchange rate isn't terribly favorable, but $275CDN sounds a little high, unless that price also included installation.

There really aren't any crazy tools involved in the job, with the exception of the socket already mentioned. You might be able to do the job yourself.

As others have already stated, the bearing is not servicable, and is not available separate from the assembly.

I attempted the Bearing install. I had quite a time getting the bearing out. After I invested in some Rust Check Penetrating fluid all went well. Thanks for the tip on the 36 mm Socket. I did end up paying 333CAN from UAP/NAPA after taxes for the bearing so if it goes again I'll try gmdirect. Thanks again for the help!
