Beware of the bears

Notice posted at every campsite and in every motel/lodge room in Yellowstone National Park

"In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts/encounters, the Department of the Interior is advising hikers, hunters and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field and forest.

"Outdoorsmen should wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that are not expecting humans. Carry pepper-spray in case of an encounter with a bear.

"It is also a good idea to be on the lookout for signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen, women and children should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear feces.

"Black bear feces are smaller than those of grizzly bears and contain lots of berries and squirrel fur. The grizzly bear feces are large, contain little bells and smell like pepper."

This joke is at least 25 years old. I remember hearing it from one of my college professors who was an avid backpacker.
