I realize that this seems stupid, since I live in Houston, but I am curious as to what the "snow plow prep" package includes - wondering if it had higher rated T bars - thanks.

Snow Plow prep package (VYU)

Package includes increased front spring capacity,130 amp alternator, transmission oil cooler, auxilliary lamp switch on dash that is pre-wired to wiring in roof for auxilliary lights.  They also come with bullet connectors sealed off hidden behind the turn signal housings, these are for simple attachment of wire leads to the plow lights.

are you planning on getting a snow plow or do you just wanted higher rated T-bars?  I've got part numbers for different T-bars on my site.  You can get them installed at the dealer and you'll need an alignment afterwards.  All of this stuff wouldn't be too hard to install yourself.

Guys - thanks for all the info - given our weather forecast for tonite a plow may be neccessary - mainly looking to beef up the front end. Will crawl under as soon as it stops freezing and check the bars against your info.

IMO instead of paying dealer prices just do the stuff yourself.  Get some heavier rated T-bars, go to www.truckperformance.com and get a higher output amp (better than the GM one) and just buy an aux lamps switch.  I think the dealer would probably rip you off on this and you can sell your old t-bars on ebay.

Based on your location, and what you probably want to use the plow for  (ie. occasional use, not for business use), I'd think you would be plenty safe on the front end components.  Obviously your not gonna get a 10' steel plow and use it to push 3-4' of snow, so I would just save my money.  Find out what most of the plow guys use on a 1/2 ton pickup and go from there.  Thats what I would do anyways.

btw, I know alot of guys that plow with IFS run Timbren helper springs.  Something else to look into....
