hey, not an answer to your question but i have a 97 z71 with 5.7 in it too, and i went to get 12inch glass packs on it and the exhaust shop said that they wouldnt put two seperate mufflers on mine because it would not have enough backpressure to fire up properly and if it did it would bring up the check engine light. im just wondering if that guy was feedin me full a s**t? so what i ended up getting was a magna flo cat back dual in dual out, and its loud but not as loud as i wanted it.

Honestly why do you kids run glasspacks??? :fume: <--Felt need to use this smilie

Glasspacks aren't the best thing performaance wise or sound wise. They might be LOUD, but LOUD isn;t all there is to an exhaust. There's refinement, tone, performance tuned sound(s), performance, etc. I'm one of the crazy 17 yr olds at my school, I can't stand loud annoying exhausts.

To answer your queston though, it should be abit louder, yet I would tend to think you'll be better off w/ a 12" Dynomax Bullet system. The Bullets procide an awesome, deep, significantly loud roar under accleeration, yet are semi-quiet at cruise w/out any sort of drone. Performance wise, although they're sort of like a glasspack, WAY better performance wise.

As for true duals, IT'S NOT GONA MAKE THE d**n THING LOUDER! Now start bashing your heads against the wall as I tell you this :D:cheers:

True duals on a stock small block engine, i/e a 5.7 like yours especially, you're not capable of forcing enough cfm's through the exhaust to produce the performance and sound from true duals. A split dual (single in/dual out),or a y pipe split from single, will actually give you a louder exhaust note than true duals. Why? You're letting all the cfm's flow throw one muffler, letting that muffler use its capability to be "loud".

If you want to ditch your Magnaflow, go w/ a y pipe into a single Dynomax bullet back out w/ a y pipe to make it a split dual. It will make it much louder.

And if you ran your glasspacks w/out an x or h pipe, any sort of crossover pipe, you're going to lose a lot of loudness right there, being it's not balanced, there ya go! RUN A X-OVER!

i had flowmaster 40 series on it it had a nice tone but i like something that rattles windows when im pulling hay and such. so i did go with 12 inch glass packs and no the check engine light did not come on but it is verry loud i love it.

Go for a Dynomax Bullet. I bet you will feel a bit of a difference on low end. Glasspacks actually do not flow that well. I do like loud, but I like good tone. Not obscene tone.
