Power Mirrors

Did a search on this, didn't find much info....Has anybody else had issues with their power mirror switch? Mine works, but only if you apply an excessive amount of PUSH to the little button. My wife drove my truck the other day, mirrors probably haven't moved but 1X in the 4 years since I got the truck. I am the only one that has driven it for the most part. She had to pick up some furniture and I was at work, so my mirrors got adjusted. I could not talk her into driving the old truck cause it is yucky and old  ....She could not get the mirrors to move right so when I got back in yesterday, the mirrors were way off. Now it will adjust both mirrors down and right easily, but balks at going up and to the left..... I would suspect the motor on the mirrors but it does the same thing on both sides. Y'all reckon it is just the switch? Anybody have a part number or an easy fix on this?

I think MountaineerTom had a similar problem. I do as well. I think the fix is to try and remove the switch and clean the contacts. Or, replace the switch. I wouldn't expect it to be too expensive. I've not tried either one yet, and my passenger side mirror was the one stuck this morning.

I've had the same problem with my 99 Silverado. Lately I've had to either push pretty hard on it, or press it once or twice before it will actually make the contact. For now I'm not too worried about it because it still works and in my experience with taking those door panels apart, or any plastic panels for that matter, if you do, they never seem to fit correctly afterwards. But yeah, I've had the same problem, so you're not alone.

Mine does the same exact thing...sometimes the windows do it too. One of these days when it annoys me enough I'm gonna remove the switches and try cleaning the contacts...if that doesn't work, then it's probably time for new switches.

I've noticed that when I have the window open and water drips in it always seems to drip directly on the switches. You know that's no good for those contacts...green mold isn't very conductive.

Anybody know how to get the switch apart to clean the contacts? Or is it just easier to replace the switch? That panel is easy to get off, but I was wondering about how hard it was to disassemble the switch itself. I know what you mean about the water dripping on the panel budhayes3.... I like to ride with the windows down too. I can't stand being shut up in a vehicle, too many years driving a Jeep I guess......

Just replacing the switch would be the easy route if cleaning the contacts doesn't hold up, just not sure how much the switch costs.

I've never pulled one apart, but I would imagine that with a pocket screwdriver and/or a small pick it should be doable... and if something breaks, then you definitely need the switch, case closed.

I always find it amazing how many of us all run into the same exact problems...makes it good to share experiences and tips and tricks.

I'm experiencing the same issue with my exterior mirrors on my 2001 GMC SLT. Did you guys ever get to the crux of the problem? What was the resolution? Did you have to take the entire door panel off in order to get to the switch? Or did you only have to take off the little plastic panel cover that covers the mirror switch and the window buttons?

Any or all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

My 2000 Yukon has the same problem. I took the switch out (easy) and then took it apart and cleaned all the contacts; it didn't fix anything. The switch insides were not that dirty to begin with so I don't think that the switches are the problem. My symptoms are that it effects both mirrors and prevents them from moving right and down ONLY. I am wondering if it is a faulty relay that causes this?

My 99' does this too, but it really doesnt bother me because i just push the selector switch a little harder and then it works fine.
