Uninstall trailer brake

In the next few days (72 hour sale) I may be getting an 04 Silverado. My current 01 was bought used and came with it's own electic brake controller installed. If I do decide to trade I'm not going to give this to the dealer. But, since I personally don't do any towing with a trailer with electric brakes (just like to have the controller if I decide to & since I already own it) I'm not too familiar with what I need to do to install/uninstall. I know to unplug the wiring harness and take the mounting screws loose to remove the unit. Is there anything else I need to do? (I've read in some posts about a fuse in the electrical center under the hood) Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The 01 and 04 harness are different. Yes, you can modifiy them, but why bother. the brake controller on your 01 is probably not something that you really need to worry about keeping, it's just not worth the hassle.

Unless the controller on your 01 is a Prodigy, I wouldn't waste the time to change it out. A new Prodigy is about $125. If your 01 controller is something like a Draw-Tite... well, consider yourself lucky that you now have an opportunity to put a Prodigy in your new 04 for only about $125.

id just sell it on ebay for 50 bucks or less... thats a tank of gas, plus the dealer wont even notice if its there or not  , try the maker's website or tech service, if you do want to take it off
