This is what I have in my truck now('00 extended cab Z71):

Alpine 7894 head unit

Orion 1200D mono block amp

(2)RF Punch HX2 10" DVC subs

Orion P-Series 6.5" components up front

RF Punch 4" x 6" speakers in the rear

1-farad power cap

Right now I'm running the highs and mids from the head unit. The output from the head unit is 27 watts rms per channel. I want to add another amp to my setup to power the highs and mids. The only thing is that the front speakers can handle way more power than the rear speakers can. Do most 4-channel amps have two separate gains? I don't want the rear speakers to get the same amount power that the front speakers are getting is what I'm trying to say. I really down't want to spend the money on a X-over. The front speakers can handle up to 200 watts(I think), and the rear are rated at 60-80 watts. Should I even try to run the 4x6 speakers from an amp, or should I leave them connected to the head unit? Any advice is appreciated.

well if it were me i'd just worry about the front speakers. you won't notice that much of a gain by amping the rears.....unless you're in the back. although since you've spent that much on the system so far i'd go ahead and shell out another $150 for a good crossover. then you have more control over your speakers.

Just run the rears off of the head unit and use a 2 channel amp for the fronts.  Thats what I did.
