More HP/torque on 6.0?

What would be the single mod to give me the most performance improvement? I don't want to diminish any towing capacity in the process. I have a new 2500HD 6.0 with 4.1 gears, 4x4. I eventually want to add dual exhaust or at least a single exhaust to get more HP and nice deep sound, but aside from that, what do you guys and gals recommend? What do you have? A chip, intake, what? What brands are best?

I love my truck, and have heard that this 6.0 has MUCH more potential than how it comes out of the factory. Also, what is the difference between the 6.0 in the HD's and the 6.0 in the SS - the SS has considerably more HP from the same engine.

Thanks!

well the best would be either a programmer or westers tuning, but run it on 91, after that probably some long tubes, then an intake, exhaust wont do as much as intake would... :D

edit: the ss has a different crank shaft, timing, compression, pistons, and i believe heads... an ls2 swap would be pretty impressive in a truck, maybe as fast as the lightning (from the c6 vette with 400&400)

Probably the single thing you could do to increase HP and Torque on your 6.0L is to get Westers. I have the same truck with the same thought process as you....just wanted the truck to perform the way it was designed "no Limiters" and to tow my race car. I bought the 89-93 dual tune - and couldnt be happier.

The biggest difference I have seen on my 6.0L was with a tuned PCM- I went with a Nelson Performance dual tune and could not be more pleased with it. Very docile till you stomp it, then it just flies and it still tows really well. I have had 8K plus on a 16 foot trailer 2X in the past month and the truck towed better than it did prior to the PCM. It is still like driving a different truck after 2000 miles-The exhaust mods made it sound faster, the new PCM makes it go faster. Should have done it years ago. :D

Thanks guys. Sorry for being ignorant, but what is a dual tune? Does that allow me to run on two different octanes? If it's not a dual tune, am I SOL if I can't find the right octane? And what is the difference between that and a programmer (if any).

I think I will go with this type of mod (once I have this all clear in my head  ). It seems to offer the most bang for your buck from what I've been reading on this forum.

Thanks!

I currently am running 2 40 series 3" flow masters with a K & N FIPK intake and a hypertech programmer which requires premium octane feul. I think all this has helped but I am looking to add a supercharger to still squeze out some usable power. I haul a 26' toyhauler and it does OK but still want more! I also looking into different gears.

The Dual Tune is for two different octane levels. Westers offers dual tunes for 87/91 & 89/93 octane levels. If you were to run a 93 octane hot tune and were in an area that only had 91 octane you could get by with that with no major problems. You may get a little ping out of the engine under load or you may not notice any difference at all.

The only perfomance mod I run on my 6.0L HD is a Westers 93 Octane Tune and it is great. A custom tune is the best way to increase power in these trucks without a doubt. Even if you run a supercharger or the like you will need a custom tune to get the full benefits out of it. Westers is the way to go...
