Tailgate strap and airbag

I took the truck in for tailgate recall and mentioned the possibility of an airbag system recall. They called me back and said steering column/airbag coil 26087306 is broken and needs to be replaced. Cost: 171.56 for the part, 269.95 for labor (3 hrs)., with tax and etc...Total 476.49

Is this reasonable?

Wasn't there an airbag component recall?

Why is the cost of this part on GM Direct is only 100.43?

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated...

Well, you didn't specify what year your truck is, but check this site: http://www.alldata.com

They have the TSB list of every truck/car. You can't see the TSB info without paying but the titles will give you enough of an idea.

I guess your truck is beyond the factory warranty? That's too bad, I don't get how this part was broken.

GMPartsDirect does not sell at the GM list price - they can sell for a lower price because of sales volume. It's in their FAQ actually - here's the quote:

Why are your parts so inexpensive? Is this for real?

Yes our prices are for real! We sell only original current production OE GM Parts. Parts and prices listed on our site are based off GM pricing. We can sell this low only because of our volume of parts sales. You can see exactly where we make our profit in our handling fee less the actual shipping cost, employee, web, and "brick and mortar associated cost", etc
