Caveat Emptor – GMPartsDirect

I’ve ordered from GMPartsDirect in the past with no problems but recently had a bad experience that I thought I’d share. Anyone else experience similar problems with them?

 

Here’s the story: I want to add Nav to a 2004 Sierra Denali. Some research uncovered the model that would work (#15204335). When I contacted GMPD they offered up a 2005 touchscreen model that was supposed to be a direct replacement for the one I’d wanted. So I ordered the model they suggested (#10377287). I installed it and it doesn’t work – no sound. So I did more research and discovered another 04 SD owner that ordered a #15204335 from GMPD – they substituted an 05 touchscreen but …….. he received a #10377531. It works fine in his 04 SD (equipped exactly like mine, including XM radio).

 

I presented this info to GMPD (via email, they don’t take phone calls or even post a number). They first responded, “Please research parts that did not come on your vehicle from the factory to make sure they will fit your vehicle.”. When I wrote back that I HAD done research and THEY had provided the substitute model number they became unresponsive to any more emails.

 

At this point I’m disputing the credit card charges unless they either –

 

1) Exchange my unit for #10377531

2) Or, replace my unit with another #10377287 if they insist this model # should work as a direct replacement for the 04 part I originally wanted.

 

Anyone else have similar experiences with them? If so, any luck with resolution?
