Programmable Tuners

Does anyone have experience with any of the programmable tuners? I read where Hypertech claims about 25hp using 93 octane. If not Hypertech, are there any others out there proven to be better? I believe the Hypertech is around $350. I've got an 04' 5.3L, bone stock.

25hp? Where at the tail pipe.

The Hypertech is good for gear ratios, tire sizes, raising red lines and top speed. No power on my seat-o-meter.

check out hptuners.com this will do everything and is also a scanner. The price of a mail order tune but you can do it yourself ($500). Like any program there is a learnng curve but I find that part of the fun.

On 93 Octane, I believe 22 HP was found in the mid range and 11 HP at peak with the HyperTech. I would get HPTuners for the Ultimate in Power, a custom tune, an SPE Proflash or a Diablo Sport Programmer instead.

I looked at the bin file with my hp tuners at a hypertech program and the only thing that they change over stock was spark advance. They bumped stock up about 5 degrees and that was it. They did not change fuel or anything else and left a butt load of torque managment on the vehicle. I copied the file so I'm going to put it on my truck today, plus all the changes that I made and see how it runs. I'll reply back tonight and let ya know.

I agree 100%.

Tried a Hypertech and I couldn't feel and difference. Retuned it and got a Westers 93 Hot tune. I couldn't believe the difference from the moment I installed the new PCM and it gets even better as the vehicle learns.

What would Y'all recommend for someone that just wanted a better ride and more gas mileage and really didn't want to use the more expensive 93 octane?

The dual octane tunes offered by Wester's (Don't know about the others) is a pretty good compromise. But most find that putting higher octane in a custom tune raises the gas mileage and raises the performance, making the cost neg liable for the higher octane.
