DRL's Turn on

Recommended Posts

My driverside DRL on the '99 Sierra was burned out. It has been cloudy for two days now and I can't turn off the *%$*@ headlights to be sure the new bulb did the trick. The owners manual says to turn off the automatic headlight feature to turn off the headlights??? Can someone tell me how to turn them off?

Not sure if this changed over the years but on my 04 there's a switch to turn off the DRL and auto headlights. It's on the end of of the dash to the left. You turn it.

All I have on the left on my '99 is a rotary to turn on the parking lights and the next position turns on the headlights. Next to that is the fog light switch.

You can't turn off the automatic headlamps on the '99's,Only on the 2000's and up. I had one and always wanted to turn them off but theres no way that I figured out how to. :nono:

I currently own an 03 so you can turn the lights off with the switch. I used to own a 99. What a pain in the a#$ these headlights are. The best way to check your DRL's is to have another person stand outside of your truck and you put it in gear ( I assume its an automatic trans). Oh yeah, make sure it is daylight so the headlights don't turn on first.

Parking brake turns them off in my 99 Suburban ,thats the only way I know.

That's true but I want the DRL's on, headlights off. On our '02 we punch the dome light button a few times and headlights are switch only but no DRL's. I even tried shining a flashlight on the sensor and no help. I think I'll wait for the sun to come out.

Drive behind a chrome fuel truck in the daytime.  :nono:  The flashlight thing doesn't really work.  I think the sensor has to have natural light to work.

Flashlight works on my Tahoe, but it takes a fe min or so to kick in

If I am not mistaking and that is a big IF, you have to start the truck with the parking brake already set at night to keep the lights from coming on. What year is your truck, I know for sure that in 2001 you could control the lights with the dome overide.

GM couldn't make this system work the same in ALL vehicles, huh? In my 2000 S-10, if I start the truck at night with the parking brake on, as soon as I release it the lights pop on, I'm usually in gear when I release it, not sure if it's the same in Park...
