Networking ?

Ok, I recently bought a new computer(NEW) & have it hooked up to my D-Link router (DI-604). My old computer(OLD) is also hooked up to the router as well. Both machines are running XP Pro. & I have the firewall disabled on both. On NEW, when I go to "My network Places/view workbook computers I can see both computers. On OLD I can only see OLD. Also, from my old computer I can ping both, and on NEW I can only ping NEW. FYI, I have also enabled netBIOS over TCP/IP. :nono: So, when I click on the old computer from the new one I get a error popup window that says:

""\\OLD is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resouce. Contact the Admistrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found.""

Any one have a clue what the problem could be? :P

Have you shared at least one drive from each PC? This must be done in order to access them from the other PC.

What IP addresses did you assign each PC? Are you blocking any type of traffic on the router ports to which they are connected (this might be contributing to your ping problem from the new to old)?

Also, at what speed are your router ports and network cards set to? They all have to match unless they are set to Auto Detect (Auto/10MB/100MB)? But sometimes Auto doesn't play well with others - set them all to the same speed for best results.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Try this go to your older machine the one that you know works on the network. Go into My network I believe and off to the left there should be some option click on set up home network, run through that wizard and it will as you to put in a floppy disk it will copy some files over then go to your new computer pop the floppy in and run the .exe file on it and it should set up all of your domain names and other setting so that it will work on your network. I hope this will help.

Check to see if you are both in the same workgroup. Right-Click on My Computer, select properties and the Computer Name tab, that should show your workgroup. You can click the Change button to rename the workgroup. You will have to reboot both computers if you change the name.

None of that works, my IP address' are 192.168.0.101 & 192.168.0.102, both computers are set up on the basic MSHOME workgroup. I also set both to 100 FULL DUPLEX......still not working.... :P

OK, I would start from scratch... Make sure that the only protocol you have installed is TCPIP and the Client is Client for MS networks and that you have File and Print Sharing for MS Networks installed in your Network Properties that pertain to your network card. It really sounds like your router needs more configuration.

After you make any changes, do a ping to see if that works before trying to access one PC from another.

What is the IP address on your router? If you are using DHCP from your router, then all PCs must be set to DHCP (Obtain an IP address automatically).

If not, have you done this on your router? ( I got this from the D-Link web site for your particular router).

Q: How do I configure Static DHCP on my router?

NOTE: When creating a Static DHCP entry, the IP address that you choose to have assigned needs to be in the range of the DHCP scope. Entries created with IP addresses outside of this range will not take effect.

A: Step 1 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (blank by default).

Step 2 Click on the Home tab and then click DHCP on the left column.

Step 3 Under the Static DHCP section next to DHCP Client, select one of the DHCP clients from the list and click Clone.

Step 4 Select Enabled and enter the IP address you would like this client to always obtain.

Step 5 Verify that the Name and MAC Address fields have the correct Hostname and MAC address for the client and click Apply. If the Hostname or MAC address is not correct, Release and Renew the IP address on the client and then refresh the DHCP page.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
