how do i mount a din sized radio without cutting

on my 88 Suburban the radio is the real old style with two knobs. is there another dash piece i could get from a junkyard that will enable me to put in a din size radio? i've looked all thru car domain and all i see is the dual knob setup. i've also checked ebay and a number of other sites and they are all the knob setup. thanks in advance!

No, you need to cut unfortuantely. The dash piece is made for the knobs, but underneath that is the metal portion of the dash with the exact same hole meant for a knob radio also. So yeah, you need to cut the plastic dash piece and the metal piece behind it. Sorry

Unless you were willing to mount the radio elsewhere. There are a couple of companies that sell overhead and center consoles (if you have buckets) that will hold a stereo.

unfortunately i don't have buckets in this beast. it's on my list of mods when i redo the interior. the bench kills my back,lol.

what kind of cutting is involved in the dash. anything a mini-hacksaw could tackle? my other question will a dash panel meant for a din radio bolt up? i had a car a couple years ago. if you ordered a knob radio the dash was configured one way. if you had the din radio, the dash was totaly different . thanks!

You could probably get away with using the mini hac saw. It would just really be a pain in the a#%. You would have better luck with a Dremel that has a cutoff wheel. The metal on the dash is less than an 1/8th inch thick so its not too hard to do, just getting the cut straight and the correct size the first time is a pain. Good luck. As far as your second question goes. I'm not 100% sure, but i don't think it will bolt up. You would really have to just take and see if its close. If its the same general configuration i really don't see a problem.
