Well,

 

I had some warranty work done to my truck (very pleased) but they said there was nothing wrong with my shocks as they are not leaking etc. I think they are junk so I would like to replace them with something better. Any suggestions folks as I know nothing about shocks. Oh, these are just for the front as the rears still seem very decent. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wish I could give better help, but I haven't had any experience with replacement shocks yet. I'm still in warranty (just barely) and while my factory shocks have gotten worse, I have yet to replace them. The oem shocks are really lame.

 

HOWEVER: preparing for the day when I upgrade, I recently got in on that Rancho deal they're promoting - - buy a set of four Rancho RS 9000x shocks, and they throw in the in-cab controller for free. That model is the 9-position, adjustable shock. The in-cab controller allows you to change shock settings while you're rolling along.

 

So I got the shocks, but haven't installed them yet. Therefore I can't give any feedback on how they compare, etc. I'm waiting for the controller to arrive, which comes direct from Rancho.

 

The deal is so good, however, that you might do some research on that product to see if it fits your needs. Rancho is running the promotion until the end of this month. Lots of vendors sell them.

I personally like a stable firm ride, and find that Bilstein's provide that. They can be had through McNiell's (sp?) for a resonable price, around $225 for all four. Bilstein's also have a lifetime warranty, but it will require you to send them in.

I just put Rancho RSX17000 on my truck with only 22000 miles,all I can say is WOW ,the ride has improved,there is no roll anymore when taking corners,control is better,bumps are lessened,what a difference...I traversed as many road conditions as possible,highway,2 lane black top,back roads,20 miles of washboard dirt roads and a little wussy off roadings and the truck's ride has improved by leaps and bounds...I like the Rancho's,but can't say they are the best cause I haven't tried any others,but if you got a newer truck,do yourself a favor and $hitcan those oem shocks and put something worth a darn under there,you won't regret it one second...... .....The stockers are garbage. :flag:

I replaced mine with Edelbrock IAS on all four corners this summer and I love the ride however, my passangers front has leaked twice and currently needs replacement. My truck is not lifted and the t-bars are not cranked anywhere near the max.

Thanks for the input folks. I was thinking of maybe going with Monroe Reflex or Monroe Sensatracs. Any comments on either of these models? I don't do a lot of off-roading besides getting to hunting and fishing spots so I would like a shock that gives a nice highway ride and one that is acceptable for a little off-road use. Thanks again for you advice.

I just put some Monroe Reflex shocks on my '03 4x2 and love them. You can really tell in the truck. They stiffen up on smooth roads and then when it gets bumpy the valves open up to let the wheels travel over the bumps better. Very nice ride. Worth the money. Should have done it last month, though. They were buy-3-get-the-4th-free.

I want to lift my truck and put some bigger tires on it. Can someone tell me where I should start looking? '02 2wd single cab. Not a huge lift, something like 2-4". and some a/t tires. thx all

I put the reflex on my 2001 silverado. I absolutely love them. They are slightly stiffer than the factory shocks and make the truck handle like a dream. I can now accerlerate around corners without worrying about body roll. I notice a difference in the first five minutes after installation. I got the shocktober rebate and to 3 for the price of 4. Just got the check in the mail.

WHAT?? Those oem things are SHOCKS?? I thought they were pogo sticks!!!

I'd either go for the Rancho RS9000X's or Bilstein 5100's. I've got the Rancho's right now and they're very nice especially for towing. I'm putting larger blocks in my rear and ford keys in front so I'll probably switch to a longer bilstein 5100 since they're made for a 0-6" lift.

 

If anyone is interested in a like new set of Rancho RS9000x for a 1999-2002 4x4 silverado let me know. I'm pretty sure these fit the 2003-2005's as well.

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
