Any tire advice would sure be appreciated

Hey gang, after doing a search here I'm now more uncertain than before hehe...I need new tires for me 2000 silverado 1500 4x4 extra cab...Here's what I've narrowed my choices down to:

Firestone Destination AT $448 installed

Bridgestone Dueller AT $486 installed

And now, after reading the posts on this and other truck boards I have to also throw these into the hat for consideration:

BFG A/T KO (didn't get pricing yet)

Bridgestone Dueller Revo (didn't get pricing yet)

The above 2 were never even a consideration before I read how great they were.

My truck is only used whenever I can't ride my Motorcycle to work. So it's basically used when its raining or snowing or when I take a trip to New England to visit the inlaws - which very rarely happens...I never go offroad unless I have to (an occasional dirt road).

Im concerned that the more aggressive tires would be way noisy and not very well suited to hiway/long trips..and would probably wear out quicker.

Do you guys/gals think I would benefit from the more aggressive Revo's or KO's??..I sure would appreciate any advice...Thanks in advance.

I went with the Revo's about 8000 miles ago on my '02 Z71 Silverado and could not be happier! They are very quiet and handle great in the rain... I'm in Texas so I can't comment on snow or such, but I've heard that they excel there as well...

good luck in your search...

Revos here, as well. Do a search for ''tirerack'' and you'll find several links to TireRack's review weblink and find that the Revos are at their #1 slot. Supposedly, the only negative is that they are a bit loosey goosey when one is towing. I haven't towed in months on this Z71, so I wouldn't really know.

And the snow? I'm also in Texas and had to look up ''snow'' in the dictionary. :(

36,000 on my Revos and they're great in the rain and snow. I haven't had any problems towing my enclosed trailer either. Definitely a good find...I got them before they really took off and the price went up(from what I hear)

Hey I notice your in Cleveland...I'm in Mentor...Anyway..thanks for all the advice..I ordered my Revo's today..should have them in a week or so..Don't know how good I did on the price...Got a quote for $653 for the p series and $750 for the LT series from one firestone shop. Wound up going with the p series from another shop here in Mentor for $590 installed...The salesman said that if I have p series now (which I do with the crappy stock goodyears) I would be fine to stay with them...

Just in time as the snow should start flying anytime now here in NE Ohio...Thanks again for all the advice :(

I also have the revos. Went with 285s, They are great. They are awesome in the rain and in the snow. I live in washington state and do a lot of snowboarding so am always using them in the rain, snow and ice. They handle well at high speeds at when cornering. They seem to be wearing just fine also. I usually have to drive at least 3 hours a day on the freeway to work and their great for the freeway too. I would recommend them even if you were not going to use them offroad. They look awesome, and the tread pattern is cool. They are a stiff tire though, and not cheap.

I've always had good luck with BF Goodrich tires, from the Comp T/A's on my Monte to the All Terrain T/A's on my truck. Gonna get my wife some Traction T/A's for her Toyota Matrix very soon. I also went with a 285 on the factory wheel and I couldn't be happier. Awesome in the snow, good in the rain, and great on dry pavement, with very little noise on the highway. Nice, fairly agressive look too. You can see them if you click on the link under the picture in my sig.

Hey Bud, beautiful truck...The bfg t/a ko's were also high on my list as was the firestone destination a/t. The only reason I didnt really persue the bfg's was the store that had them is always packed and the place is a real dump - I'm kind of anal about who is workin on my vehicles, even though its only tires...and ntb was way hi on price..they wanted around $550 for the bfg long trails which are way cheaper than the ko's..so for less than $50 bucks more I got the Revo's (right around $590)...

But everyone raves about how hi the Revo's are rated on Tireracks website..but if you look at the bfg's, they are in third place with almost 3 times as many reviews as the Revos...so in all reality, all things considered, they probably are just as highly rated as the Revo's..

As far as looks, I really like the BFG KO's, at least as much as the Revo's...I loved the BFG A/T's that came on the old s10 4wd's...Best lookin truck tire I've ever seen...But I must admit the Revo's look good also...slight edge to the BFG's in that dept though...

Oh well...hopefully they live up to the hype..Thanks again for the replies...

Thanks for the compliment desmoface! I hear ya about being anal about who touches your truck, I'm the same way. Good luck with your tire choice, hope you find what you're looking for.

My last set were the BFG All Terrains. I got 65K miles out of them and they were a great tire. This time around I didn't want to pay the high premium they demand. Went with a set of the Pep Boy brand Futura - Dakota LT in 285/75/16. They are a knock off/copy of the BFG All Terrains. Got all 4 installed with lifetime rotation and balancing on sale for $370 OUT THE DOOR!!! Have about 20K on them now and believe it or not I like them as much as the BFG's. I can't tell the difference. Been buying tires for over 30 years and consider myself a pretty good judge of tires.

Far as I can tell they should last as long as the BFG's. I would not hesitate to buy them again. As a matter of fact I will. My analysis is that I will not pay the extra money just to have the BFG logo on the side. For basically half the price it's a no brainer.

Hi Rick, I didn't even get a price for the KO's but I have to assume the are more money than the Revo's...I wouldn't have spent over $600 for tires...just can't justify that much...the Revo's were about the most I would have spent...Hopefully they will live up to the hype, I suspect they will..but that's a super price for your new tires...Unfortunately, no Pep Boys in my area...

P rated means "passenger car" and LT means "light truck." The same size P rating as a LT will have 1/2 the tread depth at start. Therefore they are cheaper and will also wear out faster. So always avoid the P rating if you are getting tires, even if they are for a 1/2 ton.

As for the Revos in snow, they did pretty crappy for my father, he just got new tires because he didn't want to go through another Colorado winter with them. We both have basically the same truck, he has a 2003 GMC 2500HD SB/XCab, I have a 2001 Chevy 2500HD SB/XCab, both 4x4 and I have had much better traction in the same places at the same time with my Goodyear Wrangler AT/S, same tire sizes even. The Revos did very poorly on regular road conditions, mud, and even deep snow; he lives on a ranch and experiences all types of weather often. The Revos were a little quieter and seemed to handle dry roads better. They feel mushier with some wieght in the truck, than the Goodyears though. IMHO I will never buy a Revo.

I only have a 1500, but the Revo's have been a great tire for me. I tow a 4000lb BBQ smoker, a 4 horse trailer and other farm equipment and have good luck so far. I also get out in the mud in the in-laws pastures etc.. I went with the 265 LT load range D tires for my truck and could not be happier. Opinions may vary, but I love these Revos! For us, they perform much better than the Goodyear AT/Ss on my wifes '04 Z71 Tahoe...
