Which tuning system is the best to increase MPG for either the 6.0 or the 8.1 engine? I've narrowed my choice down to two vehicles and know the 8.1 will kill my credit card on gas. In any case, the first mod I'll do is increase fuel economy, which now if more important than power/torque.

Thanks folks!

If milage is your concern than you have the wrong vehicle. You have a heavy truck it will take lots of gas to move it. Get a lighter vehicle and you will get better milage. The way you drive will also give you better milage. Set the dic to instant milage and notice how a little peddle pressure results in a huge milage decline. I would be sceptical of any claim of milage increase due to a tune. Fleet fuel milage is goverment mandated and the manufactures have gone to great lenghts to squeeze as much milage as possable out of these trucks. Even to the point of controlling how you drive it (torque management) I am sure a tune will release some power but then you will use it and this will hurt your milage.

I agree; neither motor will give you much in the way of mileage. And I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope that a PCM change/tune will do much in the way of improving MPG's either. These are big, heavy trucks that like their fuel, and there's really little you can do -- other then keep a light touch on the pedal -- that will improve that much.

A 6 liter with 4.10 gears and an automatic is similar in MPG as an 8.1 w/Allison and 3.73's.

Street and Performance Electronics (SPE) has a HandHeld Tuner known as the ProFlash and a special economy mode allows it to sip fuel at the cost of power. It is recommend as a Non-Towing, Non-City, only Highway or Long trip function due to the increase in catalytic converter temps and engine temp.
